From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A Warrant Officer (WO) is an officer in a military organization who is designated an officer by a warrant, as distinguished from a commissioned officer who is designated an officer by a commission, or non-commissioned officer (NCO) who is designated an officer by virtue of seniority. The rank was first used in the (then) English Royal Navy and is today used in many other countries, essentially the Commonwealth, USA and Ireland. Outside the USA they are effectively senior non-commissioned officers with long military experience, although technically in a cadre of their own between NCOs and commissioned officers. However, in the United States, warrant officers are technical leaders and specialists, and Chief Warrant Officers are commissioned by the President of the United States and take the same oath as regular commissioned officers. They may be technical experts with long service or direct entrants, notably for U.S. Army helicopter pilots. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What is the difference between a regular officer and a warrant officer? Q. And what are the requirements to be a warrant officer? Asked by Glargulon - Fri Jan 1 23:13:43 2010 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. WO's are Technical Officers and shoulder less of a managerial leadership role. WO's also DO NOT require a two OR four year degree although it makes a candidate more competitive. Example is WO pilot in the Army. High School Grads can "potentially" get accepted to WO flight program right after hs with no college. Army is currently only branch that has WO's, although other branches have them in the rank structure. Answered by Nutz - Fri Jan 1 23:28:47 2010 Questions about being an army aviation warrant officer? Q. What is the minimum/average length of contract for an army warrant officer applicant who wants to go aviation? What kind of security clearance do I need to get to be a warrant officer? I wear contacts but my vision isnt THAT bad. I've heard from some people that I could get the army to pay for laser eye surgury. Is that realistic as somebody who isnt in yet and wants to be a pilot or am I going to need to get the surgury ahead of time? Asked by Mikey - Sun Feb 28 13:46:43 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. To go aviation means almost 2 years of school, so you're looking at least a 6 year commitment. You will need a secret clearance. So long as you don't have any egregious skeletons in your closet, and your financial history is fairly clean you should be fine As for the eyes, it depends. They aren't just going to pay for lasic because you want to be a pilot, but once you're on active duty it is possible. You'll have to pass a flight physical, take the ASVAB and a flight test. If you're serious, you should really go talk to a recruiter. Don't be nervous about it, it's not like the movies where they do a little double talk and the next morning your on a bus to basic training. The process takes a couple months, they're very friendly… [cont.] Answered by hodder - Sun Feb 28 14:20:39 2010 Becoming a warrant officer after high school, is it possible?
