From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A film, also called a movie or motion picture, is a story conveyed with moving images. It is produced by recording photographic images with cameras, or by creating images using animation techniques or visual effects. The process of filmmaking has developed into an art form and industry. Films are cultural artifacts created by specific cultures, which reflect those cultures, and, in turn, affect them. Film is considered to be an important art form, a source of popular entertainment and a powerful method for educating — or indoctrinating — citizens. The visual elements of cinema give motion pictures a universal power of communication. Some films have become popular worldwide attractions by using dubbing or subtitles that translate the dialogue. Films are made up of a series of individual images called frames. When these images are shown rapidly in succession, a viewer has the illusion that motion is occurring. The viewer cannot see the flickering between frames due to an effect known as persistence of vision, whereby the eye retains a visual image for a fraction of a second after the source has been removed. Viewers perceive motion due to a psychological effect called beta movement. The origin of the name "film" comes from the fact that photographic film (also called film stock) has historically been the primary medium for recording and displaying motion pictures. Many other terms exist for an individual motion picture, including picture, picture show, moving picture, photo-play and flick. A common name for film in the United States is movie, while in Europe the term cinema is preferred. Additional terms for the field in general include the big screen, the silver screen, the cinema and the movies. From Wikipedia under the

Hi, I'm leaving for a research trip in 2 weeks. My research is both anthropological and photographical. I am planning on bringing about 15 rolls of film with me. My fear is whether or not the unexposed film will be damaged by airport security tools. The problem with buying film there is that I will be going to a pretty rural area in a 3rd world country and I'm pretty positive that I won't be able to find a camera shop where I can buy film down there. What's best? Asked by Sara R - Tue May 4 15:18:37 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Buy a film protector bag and put all your film in it. Carry it on-board with your cameras and notebook computer. Never let them out of your sight. If necessary, let the security hand check the film and leave the film in its packaging. Do NOT check your film EVER. This is where the most intense X-ray is applied to your baggage. While it is important to protect your film from X-ray, all the time, it is most sensitive to fogging once it is exposed. I use transparency film with speeds from 50 to 400 ISO, negative film from 100 to 800 ISO and black and white film from 25 to 3200 ISO. The choice of film is determined by the assignment from the client and of course the film type and ISO is different on every flight. Answered by fhotoace - Tue May 4 15:31:52 2010 How is someone hired to direct a film?
Q. I'm wondering because I want to be a film director. I mean, say you have no history such as films you've made and all you have is that you studied Film at college and university - how do you get hired and found out to begin with? Through your own amateur movies you make and put on Youtube, submit to the film festivals etc? And I guess it's to do with you saying you're up for making a film based on a particular screenplay, so how do you notify a screenwriter you're interested in their script, and how do you find screenplays? Asked by James - Sun Jan 25 08:35:58 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. I guess there are several possible avenues. The first would be to build a reputation by directing an independent/self financed movie. Christopher Nolan (director of The Dark Knight and Batman Begins) made one called Following. I believe M. Night Shymalan (?sp) also got his start this way. A second way would be to have the rights to a script and go out and find the financing. Unless you have some connections to begin with, this may prove difficult. The money people may like the script, but insist on an established director if they are going to put their money up. In this case, you might be able to get somewhere by insisting you are hires as an assistant director. There are some in Hollywood who specifically look for up and coming talent… [cont.] Answered by Justin H - Sun Jan 25 09:14:45 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "film" |
